Extrusion is a technique that creates continuous objects with a fixed cross-sectional profile by forcing a material through a tool with a unique form called a die. In a high-volume manufacturing technique called plastic extrusion, a polymer material that has been enhanced with the appropriate additives is melted and moulded continuously.
Starting with the input of plastic material (pellets, granules, flakes, or powders) into the barrel of the extruder from a hopper. Then, the mechanical energy produced by turning screws and by heaters positioned along the barrel gradually melts the material. Finally, resulting in the liquid polymer pressed into a die, giving it the proper shape that will harden as it cools.
Protecnic specialises in industrial plastic extrusion. Our extensive history, along with the accuracy and personalization of each project, serve as pillars for us. We offer more than 5,000 examples of melamine board edge designs that millimeter-perfectly match the major producers on the market. Furthermore, every week, we produce new designs through ongoing innovation.
Our four plastic extrusion lines run in three eight-hour shifts, around-the-clock, six days per week. Protecnic's workforce and industrial infrastructure enable us to produce 100 million linear metres of melamine board edges while customising each metre of an order to the client's particular requirements in terms of needs, colours, designs, and textures. Along with tambour doors and screw caps, we also manufacture PVC/ABS edgebands. Tambour doors can be used to create cupboards and storage solutions. From the side of the cabinet, this kind of door folds inward, giving the room's occupants better flexibility while also ensuring everyone's safety when moving around. In other words, because the tambour door does not protrude from the cupboard, nobody could trip over it or run into it when the cabinet is open.
Our skilled engineering team, which oversees the tooling workshop and is in charge of creating custom moulds for plastic injection and tools for plastic extrusion, is a supporter of industrial design and the furniture industry. We offer designers and businesses advice on the equipment required to make their dreams a reality. Some of with whom we have worked side by side on industrial design projects are Marcelo Alegre and Javier Cuñado.
